Febrile convulsions
It's quite common for babies and young children to have brief convulsions, or fits, if they have a fever (a high temperature). These are called febrile convulsions.
It can be really scary to see your child having convulsions. But febrile convulsions are usually over quickly, and children recover completely afterwards. Most children don't even need treatment.
Children can get febrile convulsions from when they are a few months old. They usually grow out of them by the time they're 5 or 6. Having simple febrile convulsions as a child doesn't cause any long-term health problems.
